"Inclusion in Art - with Suzanne Thomas" on the @StateOfInclusion podcast: In this episode, we discuss diversity and inclusion in art with @suzjustice. Her organization, Inclusion in Art, seeks to build opportunities for artists of color in Oklahoma. My discussion with Suzanne is a reminder of how art and community culture play a role in helping us build more inclusive communities. It may be through developing and supporting diversity and emerging artists. Maybe it's building a more inclusive artistic community, or it may be in celebrating the work of our masters, those mature and diverse artists in our community. We also talk about how partnering can be used by smaller organizations to increase their impact, their reach, and even help larger and more traditional organizations become more inclusive.⠀
#Repost @ebonyimandallas New artwork revealed today! “Songs of Freedom” was commissioned by @citizensedmond and will be donated to the Clara Luper Legacy Committee! Songs of Freedom” is inspired by the movement educator and activist Clara Luper created with NAACP Youth Council members that broke barriers nurtured by racism and hatred. Ms. Luper and the youth, worked hard in the face of violence and bigotry as they sang Freedom Songs, peacefully marched, and protested at lunch counters and outside of businesses that sought to maintain lies of superiority through segregation. Together, the youth, Ms. Luper, and others inspired to create change dismantled barriers and ushered Oklahoma into a new day while inspiring countless others across the globe. This piece is dedicated to those fearless change-makers who risked their lives to create a better world for Black people throughout America.
